Best places in Ninh Binh

If you're travelling to Vietnam, you can't miss the best places in Ninh Binh. This region inspires with breathtaking landscapes, historic temples and unique photo spots. In this article, we introduce you to the highlights in Ninh Binh.

Mua Caves

The Mua Caves are definitely one of the best places in Ninh Binh - especially because of the view. The climb is strenuous (there are almost 500 steps and you'll work up a sweat in the heat), but it's totally worth it. Once you reach the top, you are greeted by a breathtaking view over the rice fields, rivers and karst rocks that are so typical of the region. There are two viewpoints - one with a dragon statue, the other with a small temple. Both offer magnificent views, especially at sunrise or sunset. If you start early in the morning, you can enjoy the Mua Caves almost to yourself.

Water lilies

At the foot of the Mua Caves, there is a beautiful garden area with a small lake where large water lilies and lotus flowers bloom depending on the season. This is a popular photo spot, especially during the lotus season (approx. May to July), because the plants provide a dreamlike backdrop - with water, flowers, a small bamboo bridge and the karst rocks in the background. If you're already there, it's definitely worth a detour.

Xanh Coffee

After climbing up to the Mua Caves and taking photos of the water lily, you've really earned your breakfast. A perfect spot for this in Ninh Binh is Xanh Coffee with delicious pancakes, bowls and milkshakes at reasonable prices.

Hoa Lu Old Town

In the evening, it's worth making a detour to the old capital Hoa Lu. The atmosphere is particularly beautiful then - it is quiet, the air is more pleasant and everything seems a little magical. A particular highlight is the small, illuminated tower that stands in the middle of the water.

Bich Dong Pagoda

It's worth getting up early again here. The gateway to Bich Dong Pagoda is located on a beautiful, tranquil lake, which is particularly peaceful in the morning. Definitely recommended if you are in Ninh Binh. We did not visit the pagoda itself.

Accommodation

We spent the night in the accommodation Coco Island Villa & Hotel Ninh Bìnhwhere we stayed on the top floor of a bungalow. The accommodation offers beautiful hotel grounds and a great pool that invites you to relax. The accommodation is also connected to the main road by a small bridge (which can only be crossed on foot), making it particularly easy to transfer to another location.
